This bench was made for a family who wanted to remember their mum. The words “Mum, will miss you every day” are carved by hand into the oak backrest, in a spot where they can sit, talk to her and feel close.

A memorial bench gives grief somewhere to go. It might sit in the garden she loved, overlook a favourite view, or become the place the family gathers on her birthday. Over the years it becomes part of how you remember her.

Choosing the words

There’s no right or wrong wording. Some families choose a simple name and dates. Others choose a phrase she always said, a line that sums her up, or a few words from the heart, like these. We’ll help you with the layout and lettering, and you’re welcome to send a sketch or handwriting to be carved.

Hand-carved with care

Every engraving is carved by hand by an experienced sculptor whose work features in national parks. He works close to our workshop, so we plan each design together in detail. The letters are cut deep into thick oak, so they’ll stay clear for many years.

If the bench will be placed in a churchyard, cemetery or public space, it’s worth checking with the landowner or council first, as many have guidelines for memorial benches.

About solid oak

These benches are made from very thick, natural oak, which moves with the seasons. Small cracks and splits will appear as the wood dries and takes on moisture. This is completely natural and doesn’t affect the bench’s strength.
